EQUISK's extensive testing has shown that these boots lead to a maximum of 1°C increase in soft tissue temperature during exercise, and in warm environment testing, results show that legs wearing TotalCool boots maintain a cooler temperature than a bare leg.
At the same time, the innovative materials provide more impact protection than regular brushing boots and are super hard-wearing.
With 360° ventilation through hexagonal airflow channels, maximum airflow and heat dissipation is assured. The inner lining is skin-friendly and does not retain water.
Available in Snow White, Moon Beige and Graphite Black. We recommend the white and beige boots in hot conditions, as lighter colours assist with heat dissipation.

Why reducing heat matters
Studies have shown that everyday protective legwear can cause enough heat in horses' tendons to cause damage.
As there is no muscle in the lower limbs, the tendons and ligaments rely on cooling through convection, ie airflow. It is known that cell death occurs above 42.5°C, and that cells are negatively affected at or above 40°C for five minutes or more.
A 2021 study (link) found that booted legs were up to 8°C hotter than bare legs during exercise, and maintained elevated heat for longer during recovery. The temperatures reached were enough to cause significant cell damage.
Unfortunately, most current boot options simply do not allow for sufficient airflow to let natural convection cooling have any effect. As a result, tendon damage is likely to occur.
We realised that current boot materials have insufficient integrity to maintain their structure when opened up for airflow.
We therefore decided to use a completely new material which would allow for 360° ventilation with a honeycomb pattern, maximising the surface area available for convection cooling.
As a bonus, the CoolTech material provides excellent impact protection, is extremely hard-wearing, and is very easy to wash.

This structure permits maximum airflow for convection cooling, which is the lower limb’s most efficient cooling mechanism. It also allows for a high level of impact protection and durability.

What type of work and competition are they suited for?
Our current TotalCool model is a brushing boot. It is suited for everyday training/schooling, and lower-level competitions across all disciplines. They are not tested for high level cross-country or showjumping. We are currently working on eventing and showjumping models.
Can I use them in wet or muddy conditions?
Absolutely! TotalCool boots do not retain any water, so they are fine to use in the wet. Any mud will come off very easily with a quick hose, as there is no fabric to hold mud/dirt. They also dry really quickly!
What size should I choose?
See our sizing chart below. We will happily exchange your boots even if you have tried them on your horse (just make sure to take them off straight away, as they can’t show any sign of wear).
Care Instructions:
We recommend a quick hose down after each ride (they will dry almost immediately, as they don’t retain water). If you need them sparkling clean, you can throw them in the washing machine at 30°C on a gentle spin cycle.
